West Pawlet Fire Department Father’s Day Spaghetti Dinner fundraiser, Sunday, June 16, 4 to 6 PM: The father’s day dinner is sponsored and hosted by the West Pawlet Volunteer Fire Department at the West Pawlet fire house.  All are welcome. The meal includes spaghetti with sauce and a meatball, tossed salad and garlic bread. Costs are: Dine in – $5 per plate and free to children under the age of 5 years; Takeout – $6 per plate. Area Chorus Spring Concert, Sunday, June 16, 3 PM, South Granville Congregational Church:  Join your friends and neighbors for a beautiful concert at the church on Rte. 149 in South Granville, NY. Admission is free; donations accepted. Refreshments will be provided. Several Pawlet singers are among the group that gathers from neighboring towns in NY and VT. 

Washington County Band Concert, Tuesday, June 18, 7 PM, Fort Salem Theater, Salem NY: This free concert will be performed in memory of former band member Dick Campbell. The Washington County band is directed by Geoffrey Gee, Director of Instrumental Music at Long Trail School. Band members are from the Salem, NY area and include players from Pawlet and Poultney. Enjoy an evening of jazz, gospel, march and other much-loved classics. 

Restored Pawlet barn featured at Sissy’s Kitchen Concert, June 26: A restored 1760s Pawlet gunstock barn frame will provide cover and atmosphere for a concert and supper event on Wednesday, June 26 7-8:30 PM in Middletown Springs. The public is invited to the backyard of Sissy’s Kitchen on West Street where the old Ross barn frame is now erected for viewing. Music will be provided by Three Penny Acre, a threesome of songwriters/musicians Arkansas. The audience is invited to bring their own picnic suppers or order from Sissy’s by 5:30 pm (235-2000). Pawlett Historical Society Tag & Bake Sale, Saturday, June 29: The sale will be held 8:30 AM – 1:00 PM at the Pawlet Firehouse on Vermont Route 133, with treasures including household goods to antiques, linens, and more. Baked goods will be available, and free lemonade. Please consider what you might donate to the tag sale and what you might want to buy. PHS members will be setting up on Friday, June 28 at the Pawlet Firehouse and will receive donations of serviceable items (no clothing, TV, stereo or electronic goods please) at the Firehouse on Friday, June 28 between 8:30 AM – 6:30 PM. Baked goods may be brought to the Firehouse the morning of the event, Saturday, June 29. During the tag sale, raffle tickets will be available for a black walnut hallway cupboard kindly  made and donated by Vermont cabinet maker Ray Finan using black walnut donated by PHS trustee Peter Moore. Major revisions to the Pawlet Zoning ordinance will be presented by the Planning Commission for comments at a public hearing at 7 PM on Monday, July 1, 2013, in the conference room of the Town Hall.

Revisions include:

  • Regulations for subdividing existing parcels of land.
  • Incorporation of Flood Hazard zone regulations.
  • Limits on development in river corridors.
  • Changes to permitted and conditional uses in various zoning districts.
  • New standards for major developments.

Haystack Hustler Seniors Summer Schedule: Please keep this information handy and be sure to participate. We always have a great time, so come and share in the fun! June 25, at noon, we will meet at the Pawlet Church for a pot lucklunch and program. We will collect items for the Pawlet Food Pantry and hold a 50/50 Raffle. Bring a friend! July 14, we will carpool to Salem Theater to see the 2 PM show, “I DO! I DO!” July 17  we will travel by bus, with Northshire Seniors to the Magic Wings Butterfly Conservatory in Greenfield, MA, and the Bridge of Flowers in Shelburn Falls, MA. August 13, we will enjoy a picnic at Lake St Catherine State Park at noon.  Bring a dish to share, beverage, and lawn chair.  Picnic supplies, meat to grill, rolls and condiments will be provided. If you do not have a State Park Pass for Seniors, you can get one from your Town Clerk. Rutland Area Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice Cholesterol Screening: The Rutland Area Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice holds a total lipid profile along with a comprehensive cholesterol and glucose screening the first Wednesday of every month from 8:30 to 11 AM, at the RAVNAH office at 7 Albert Cree Drive in Rutland. Call 775-0568 in advance for an appointment. The total lipid profile is a group of tests to determine risk of coronary heart disease. The complete lipid profile requires an 8 to 12-hour fast prior to the test to ensure accurate results. The cost for the complete lipid profile and glucose screening is $30.
