Historic Photos Exhibit, Pawlet Public Library November 9 to December 9: Opening reception is Saturday, November 9, 11 AM to 1 PM at the library. Featured Pawlet photographers are Archie Burdick (1866-1936), Helen Mary Bushee (1862-1947) Ella Clark (1893-1980) and Neil Rappaport (1942-1998). The library is open Tuesday through Saturday. West Pawlet Fire Department Pancake Breakfast, Sunday, November 10, 7:30 to 11 AM, West Pawlet fire house: The fire house is located on Route 153 (Main Street) in West Pawlet, and it’s a handicap-accessible site.  All are welcome. Pancake menu includes regular as well as chocolate chip, blueberry and cranberry. Sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs, and home fries are also served, along with coffee, milk and orange juice. Prices are $7 for 12 years and up, $5 for 5-12 years and free to children under the age of 5.  In recognition of Youth Deer Hunting Weekend, all youth hunters who provide photo or proof of deer will receive a free breakfast. Pawlet Town Offices closed Monday, November 11 in observance of Veterans Day.

First installment of wastewater fees is due to the Town Treasurer no later than Tuesday, November 12. Since November 11 is Veterans Day, Judy Coolidge will accept the payments on the November 12 without interest. The increase this year is due to the upgrade of the wastewater treatment plant.

Haystack Hustlers Seniors potluck lunch Tuesday November 12: We extend a special invitation to all Veterans to meet with us at the Pawlet Church at noon for a great potluck lunch.  Entertainment will follow lunch.  A 50/50 raffle will be held and we will collect items for the Pawlet Food Pantry. Our second lunch of the month will be the Holiday Feast at the Mettawee Community School.  Watch for further information.

Public Hearing on major revision of multiple regulations, Tuesday, November 12, 6:30 PM, Pawlet Town Hall Conference Room: The proposed regulations apply to flood hazard areas, subdivisions and zoning and will be incorporated into one Unified Bylaw.  A full copy of the proposed bylaw can be found at the Town Hall and on the Town of Pawlet web site http://pawlet.vt.gov/town-offices/planning-commission/.

Health care presentation, Wednesday, November 13, at 6:30 PM, West Pawlet Firehouse: Estelle Leach has invited Dr. Dan McCauliffe of West Pawlet to give a presentation about where we are and where we are going with regard to health care in Vermont.

Pawlet Volunteer Fire Department Annual Game Supper, Saturday, November 16, 5 PM: This community tradition, now 45 years strong, is not only one of the best-known happenings in Pawlet, it is also one of our department’s most important fundraisers. We hope you will join us! Adults $12, and $6 for children under 12.

West Pawlet Volunteer Fire Department Turkey Raffle, Friday, November 22 at 7 PM  at the West Pawlet firehouse:  Free refreshments – coffee, donuts, soda and water, will be available. Tickets are on sale by the fire department for four grand prizes: Remington Model 7600 Pump Rifle (or $400 cash); binoculars; $100 cash; Turkey Meal with Fixin’s. Grand Prize winners will be announced November 22nd at the Turkey Raffle event.  One does not need to be present at the Turkey Raffle to win a Grand Prize. Ticket proceeds support the fire department’s equipment and training needs.  The West Pawlet Volunteer Fire Department is a designated 501(c) (3) non-profit with I.R.S. News from Pawlet Listers: GIS (geographic information science) mapping system for Pawlet is now available online and can be viewed at: http://www.caigisonline.com/pawletvt/. Several layers of maps are included that give zoning information, soil information, parcel ID, abutting owner information and more. Thanks to Lister Elaine Decker for making this possible. We have selected a consultant and are beginning our property reappraisal process. We expect to begin in November 2013. We will be making a few visits to property owners to develop our basis for the reappraisal. Your cooperation help make the process more efficient.  Front Porch Forum is now available in Pawlet: Front Porch Forum is a web site that helps neighbors connect and build community by hosting regional networks of online neighborhood/town forums. The new Pawlet Wells Front Porch Forum is in the member recruitment phase. So far, 64 members have signed up. Once we get 100 members on board, then full functionality will turn on and everyone can start using it to share postings among neighbors. Emergency Fuel Assistance Fund in Pawlet needs donations: Heating season is here, and our local fund meets emergency situations on the spot.
