Town Meeting 2014 is fast approaching – March 4, 2014!!

There are several elected positions that are expiring this year and now is the time to be generating petitions if you are interested in serving. Nominating Petitions to appear on the ballot and Consent of Candidate Forms for Town Meeting 2014 must be submitted by January 27, 2014 Following is a list of expiring offices:

Moderator (Town) -… 1 year
Moderator (School) – 1 year
Town Clerk – 3 years
Town Treasurer – 3 years
Selectboard – 1 year
Selectboard – 1 year
Selectboard – 3 years
Lister – 3 years
2nd Constable – 2 years
Delinquent Tax Collector – 1 year
Town Agent – 1 year
Grand Juror – 1 year
Pawlet School Director – 3 years
UD #47 School Director – 3 years
UD #47 School Director – 3 years
Library Trustee – 3 years
Library Trustee – 3 years

Any of the positions listed above are a great way to become involved in your Town’s government and can be a rewarding experience. When considering running for a town office and submitting a petition to appear on the ballot, feel free to contact a town official to become familiar with what the roles and responsibilities are for that office. Each position comes with a time commitment and duties that go along with it and it would be in your best interest to find out before you run for office and then decide if it is a good fit for you and your current schedule rather than finding out after you have been elected that you are not able to fulfill the duties of the position. Being an elected official is an honor that has been bestowed upon each official by the voters of the town.
