Reception for George Bouret photography exhibit, “Portraits at the Fair,” Pawlet Library, Friday, August 15, 6 – 8 PM: The Vermont Folklife Center in Middlebury says, “Harkening back to photographers in the 19th and early 20th centuries, George Bouret uses painted backdrops and props to construct an imaginary moment for a portrait image–and he has created these uniquely revealing portraits at fairs and public gatherings throughout southwestern Vermont.” Refreshments will be served.
West Pawlet Volunteer Fire Department Auction, Thursday, August 21, West Pawlet Firehouse, 6 PM: Auctioneer for the event will be Chriss Mars; items will be available to view starting at 5 PM. All proceeds will support the department’s general operating costs and much-needed equipment and training programs. Donated items for the auction are still being gladly accepted by the department. Food will be available for purchase, including grilled burgers, hot dogs and French fries, sodas and bottled water. Statewide Primary Election, Tuesday, August 26: The primary election will be held to vote for candidates for these offices: U.S. Representative, Governor, Lieutenant Governor, State Treasurer, Secretary of State, Auditor of Account, Attorney General, State Senator(s), State Representative(s), Probate Judge, Assistant Judge, States Attorney, Sheriff, High Baliff. Pawlett Historical Society, “The Idea of Vermont,” Thursday, August 28, 7 PM, Pawlet Library: Green Mountain College Professor Laird Christensen will explore how Vermont has evolved and how it is continuing to redefine itself.
Art on Edie’s Green, Pawlet Village, Saturday, August 30, 10 AM – 4 PM, , thirty area artists will converge in Pawlet, for Art on Edie’s Green. This will be the 17th annual art show and sale in support of the Pawlet Scholarship Fund. Artists donate 20% of their sales to the Fund, which helps Pawlet high school graduates and adults with post-high school education. Food and drinks will be available.
