Town of Pawlet seeks administrative assistant for the Select Board; applications due by July 7: The Select Board’s Administrative Assistant works at the discretion of the board, about 12 hours per week, to provide assistance and leadership in carrying out the operations and activities necessary for the effective, efficient operation of the town. Help draft the agriculture portion of Pawlet’s 2015 Town Plan: Fred Stone of the Pawlet Planning Commission will be working on drafting the agriculture portion of the 2015 Pawlet Town Plan on Friday, July 10, 6:30 PM in the conference room of the Town Hall. Anyone interested in the future of agriculture in our town is encouraged to attend.

GMP schedules power outage for July 11: Notice to the Town of Pawlet from GMP – On Saturday, July 11, 2015 between the hours of 00:00 AM and 04:00 AM Green Mountain Power Corporation will interrupt your electric service. This outage is necessary to provide safe working conditions for Green Mountain Power Corporation crews while working on our equipment. In the event of bad weather, the outage will occur on Sunday, July 12, 2015 between the hours of 00:00 A.M. and 04:00 A.M. West Pawlet Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary’s Annual Flea Market, Raffle and Bake Sale, Saturday, July 11, 9 AM – 3 PM: This family event will be held on Town-Wide Yard Sale Day in West Pawlet at the fire station located on Vermont Route 153 (Main Street). The firehouse kitchen will open at 9 AM for a light breakfast of donuts and coffee, and it will also be open for lunch. Many homemade items will be available at the food sale. Vendor tables in the flea market area are available for rent at $10 each. Reserve a table soon! Flea market contacts are Edna Winot: 645-0174 and Ellie Parks: 287-1639. The Big Raffle drawings will begin around 2 PM with more than 50 items to be raffled, including Telescope furniture and cash! Roast pork dinner Saturday, July 11, 5 PM, Pawlet Church: The menu includes: roast  pork baked with topping, stuffing, mashed potatoes with gravy, hot vegetables, cabbage, salad, applesauce, fruited Jello, rolls with butter, and hot and cold beverages. The cost is $12 for adults. Takeout orders can also be make on the day of the dinner by calling the church at 325-3022.

2015 Pawlet Volunteer Fire Department Auction, Thursday, July 23: The famous auction returns! This community tradition involves bargains, great food, live auction entertainment, and a great chance to have some fun with your neighbors– in short, there’s something for everyone! We begin accepting donations on Wednesday, July 8, so check those garages and attics. Your no-longer-needed items can become a major source of support for your fire department. Items can be dropped off at the station on Tuesday evenings in July, or call 325-3222 and leave a message to arrange a pickup.

Pawlet Library’s 48th Annual Book Sale, Mettawee School, Saturday, July 25, 9 AM to 3PM, and Sunday, July 26, 10 AM to 2 PM: The Library seeks volunteers to help moving and setting up 25,000 books, facilities for the bake sale and food service. Please call the library at 325-3123.

2015 Hildene Award Luncheon Honors Pawlet’s Susanne Rappaport on Sunday, July 26, 12 PM: The contributions of Jane Beck and Susanne Rappaport will be celebrated by family, friends and colleagues at a luncheon honoring them at Hildene. The Hildene Award, given annually to a Vermonter(s) selected by Hildene’s Board of Trustees, includes a $10,000 prize that will go to a project of the recipient’s choosing. This year Susanne Rappaport’s  is a posthumous award, therefore the 2015 project will be chosen by Jane Beck. The project will be announced at the luncheon. This event is open to the public. The cost to attend the luncheon is $30 per person, $20 for Hildene members and volunteers. This includes admission to Hildene for the day. Art on Edie’s Green, September 5, Pawlet Village: This event is a major fundraiser for the Pawlet Scholarship Committee which provides scholarships to Pawlet and West Pawlet residents 18 years and older who plan to attend college or continue their education. Please plan on stopping by, supporting your local artists and facilitating someone’s education. The artists donate 20% of their profits to support the scholarship fund.
