Notice from Town Clerk, 10/1/2018: Early/absentee voting for the 2018 General Election has begun. Therefore, effective immediately, the Pawlet Town Office is an active polling place! No political or campaign materials are permitted withing the polling place. Additionally, there will be no campaigning, signage, brochures or conversations pertaining to the 2018 ballot. We are not permitted to answer any questions regarding any candidate. Thank you.
Road Closure Notice, Pawlet Highway Department: Beginning Monday, October 1 and until further notice, Herrick Brook Road will be closed for culvert work at 940 Herrick Brook Rd. This is where Herrick Brook Rd. & Towslee Hill meet. Travel on Herrick Brook Rd. will need to take place at the south end of the road (Route 30 south).

Pawlet Select Board Meeting Recordings available: PEG-TV, Rutland County public access station, is now filming Pawlet Select Board meetings; recordings will be available to view via the PEG-TV website, www.pegtv.com. Viewers who can access PEG-TV through their cable provider will also be able to watch on Mondays @ 12 PM, Thursdays @ 7:30 AM and Saturdays @ 5:30 PM. If you attend a meeting that is being filmed, please note that there is no editing of the content that is presented during open meeting. It will air just as it was played out in real time. It is also important to note that the person running the camera cannot and will not interact with anyone during the meeting. Roast pork dinner Saturday, October 6, 4:30 PM, Pawlet Church: The menu includes: roast pork baked with topping, stuffing, mashed potatoes with gravy, hot vegetables, cabbage salad, applesauce, fruited Jello, rolls with butter, and hot and cold beverages, and this month’s special dessert. The cost is $12 for adults, $6 for children up to 12 and free for ages 5 and under. Takeout orders can also be made on the day of the dinner by calling the church at 802-325-3022.
community open house at the iconic Braintree School on Warren Switch Road in West Pawlet. Learn about the school’s history, the historical society’s restoration completed in 2008, and visit with your neighbors. Our teacher of the day, Abbie Mahurin, will be instructing students on the 3 R’s. Students of any age are invited to dress in period costume and participate in the activities. (We need students!) Not to be missed – Mrs. Ripley will be baking some of her delicious goodies for refreshments! Come join the fun! Admission is free.
West Pawlet Volunteer Fire Department Pancake Breakfast, Sunday, October 14, 7:30 – 11 AM: The West Pawlet Volunteer Fire Department, located at 2806 Vermont Route 153 (Main Street), is a handicap-accessible site. All are welcome. Enjoy regular, chocolate chip, blueberry and cranberry pancakes, waffles – all served with local maple syrup – and West Pawlet’s world-famous home fries, scrambled eggs, sausage and bacon. Beverages are coffee, tea, milk and orange juice. Breakfast prices are $10 for 12 years and up, $5 for 5-11 years and free to children under the age of 5 years. All profits are dedicated for the department’s equipment and training needs. The fire department is a non-profit. Donations are appreciated and are gratefully received. New members are welcome. The department members extend a sincere thank you to the many patrons of our pancake breakfast events which are held the second Sunday monthly September through April. Upcoming Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event for Pawlet Residents: Saturday, October 13, 2018, 8:30 AM – 12:30 PM, Rutland Town Transfer Station, in Northwood Park off Post Road Extension, Rutland: This service is free to residents of the Solid Waste Alliance Communities, including Pawlet. Proof of residency may be required.
Healthy Meals at the Pawlet Food Pantry: Frozen prepared meals, healthy and free, are available at the food pantry for those in need every other Friday at the Pawlet Community Church, junction of Rtes. 30 & 133 in Pawlet Village. Please note pantry is open only one hour the first Friday of each month and two hours other Fridays. Unable to make it to pantry or do you know of anyone in need? We can help! Call: 802-867-2409. Meals are provided by The Grateful Hearts non-profit food program.
