Pawlet Emergency Team emergency shelter announcement
The Pawlet Emergency Team is bringing renewed focus to strengthening our program around local emergency sheltering so that we are ready to support our community should the need arise. Both the Mettowee Community School and the West Pawlet Firehouse are identified as options for local shelters that can offer support to those displaced due to property or infrastructure damage, or to those who are not able to meet their basic needs due to a disaster situation.

In the event of a need to open a shelter locally, we would function as a partner shelter with the American Red Cross (ARC), which could provide material support. Communities are responsible for developing their own team of volunteers to staff the shelters and the American Red Cross will provide training for these teams.

If you would like to learn more about becoming a shelter volunteer, please contact Jacki Becker at jackiebbecker@gmail.com, or Bob Morlino at robertm850@aol.com.

Did you know?
The first federal holiday was Independence Day? Did you also know it wasn’t a federal holiday until June 28, 1870 when Congress named New Years’ Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day federal holidays? It would take 15 years for those holidays to extend to all federal employees instead of just those that worked in Washington D.C.

PSA from Health Officer
On June 7th, our Town Health Officer received word from the State that a red fox found in West Pawlet tested positive for rabies after it injured a Vermont resident’s pet. No humans were exposed to the fox, and the pet owners have been advised about appropriate veterinary follow up. Per recommendation by the State epidemiologist this information is being shared to spread awareness of the risk for rabies in wildlife.

Highway Department
The Town of Pawlet Highway Department requests that citizens do not come to the town garage to contact them. Please phone and leave a message: 802-325-3467
