Pawlet Public Library Raffle Fundraiser
The Pawlet Public Library’s fall fundraiser is going on now. “Root for the Library Raffle,” which runs through October 3 when the drawing will be held. Raffle items are valued at $100 or more, including a limited-edition print by Middletown Springs artist Peter Huntoon, private guitar lessons with On Tone Music, artwork, gift certificates to local restaurants and retailers, as well as specialty food and fun themed baskets. The fundraiser features a hand-colored print by Pawlet photographer Neil Rappaport (1942 – 1998) his photograph, “Coat Rack,” tells a silent tale and was generously donated by Eileen Travell. Rappaport was a self-taught photographer who established the Photography Department at Bennington College in Vermont where he served on the faculty for 27 years. He called his works “biographies rather than essays.”
Raffle tickets are $25 each or $100 for five. Participants can choose which raffle items they are interested in, “Many charitable individuals and businesses donated outstanding items for our “Root for the Library Raffle,” says Library Director Lyndsi Barnes. “Proceeds from the raffle will be used to design a new website for the library, increase programs and events for adults and children, subscribe to digital resources like e-books and audio books, and provide interlibrary loans, public Wi-Fi access, and statewide circulation automation.”
Participants can browse the raffle item list at www.pawletpubliclibrary.com and download
tickets to mail in. They can also visit the library Tuesday through Saturday when the building is open to view items and purchase tickets. The library is located at 141 School Street, Pawlet.

A heartfelt thanks going out to all who continue to stock the Pawlet Little Free Food Cupboard.
Please keep the weather in mind as you make donations, dry foods are a good option. Remember to check the expiration dates of items before donating to prevent other volunteers from having to remove and dispose of offerings that are outdated.
If anyone utilizing the donations has ideas for specific products that would be helpful, please pop a note right in the cupboard.
The Little Free Food Cupboard is located on the grounds of the Pawlet Community Church—it’s bright red! Please take what you need and leave what you can.
Pawlet Emergency Team emergency shelter announcement
The Pawlet Emergency Team is bringing renewed focus to strengthening our program around local emergency sheltering so that we are ready to support our community should the need arise. Both the Mettowee Community School and the West Pawlet Firehouse are identified as options for local shelters that can offer support to those displaced due to property or infrastructure damage, or to those who are not able to meet their basic needs due to a disaster situation.
In the event of a need to open a shelter locally, we would function as a partner shelter with the American Red Cross (ARC), which could provide material support. Communities are responsible for developing their own team of volunteers to staff the shelters and the American Red Cross will provide training for these teams.
If you would like to learn more about becoming a shelter volunteer, please contact Jacki Becker at jackiebbecker@gmail.com, or Bob Morlino at robertm850@aol.com.
