Roast pork dinner Saturday, September 7,  5 PM, Pawlet Church: The menu includes: Roast  pork baked with topping, stuffing, mashed potatoes with gravy, hot vegetables, cabbage, salad, applesauce, fruited Jello, rolls with butter, and hot and cold beverages.

Weekend Cheese Tour at Consider Bardwell Farm Saturday and Sunday, September 7 – 8: Visit us at our farm at 1333 Route 153 in West Pawlet. All our award-winning cheeses will be available for tasting and purchase, with grilled cheese sandwiches made to order from our Pawlet raw cow milk cheese. Our cheese makers will give a talk at 11 AM and 1 and 3 PM. Our farmers Pete and Riker will talk about how our dairy goats and cows are raised, fed, and milked as they give a hayride tour down our dirt farm road to the Hereford pigs and doeling houses. Take a self tour of our barn with friends and kids.  Our farmers will have informative signs  posted throughout, telling visitors how the milking system operates and how the goats live and work! Come hear Bluegrass music with Jaime Lee of Pawlet on Sunday from 11:30 AM to 1 PM. West Pawlet Farms participating in our festivities include: Wayward Goose Farm, Pine Wood Farm, Pitchfork Preserves.

Property Taxes due Tuesday, September 10: The first property tax payment for the 2013 tax year is due to the Town Treasurer; bills were mailed at the beginning of August. Haystack Hustler Seniors Activities in September: Potluck lunch at the Pawlet Church, September 10 at noon.  We will hear a speaker from The Commons Senior Housing in Granville, New York.  This will be the final time to sign up for the October 3 bus trip to Montshire Museum and King Arthur Flour in Norwich, VT.  September 24 at 12 noon, we look forward to being back at Mettowee School for lunch and time spent with the students.  Suggested price for the lunch is $3.50.  Please be thinking of activities you want to participate in for the next program year. Informational Meeting for Pawlet Streamside Property Owners, Wednesday, September 11, 5:30 PM, Pawlet Library: The Poultney-Mettowee Natural Resources Conservation District presentation will center on best management practices for streambank protection and mitigation of land damage in the event of a flood.  The Poultney Mettowee Conservation District is interested in engaging individual property owners in safer land management practices.  See a review of the local damage from Tropical Storm Irene and learn what you can do to decrease damage in the future and what your town is doing to help mitigate future costs.
