Pawlet Little Free Food Cupboard
A heartfelt thanks going out to all who continue to stock the Pawlet Little Free Food Cupboard. In particular, a big shout out to the Mettowee School Girls on the Run team, who donated a large portion of their fundraising money to purchase food and toiletries for those using the Cupboard. This donation has allowed us to supplement donations over the past few months.

Please keep the weather in mind as you make donations, dry foods are a good option with the current heat. Remember to check the expiration dates of items before donating to prevent other volunteers from having to remove and dispose of offerings that are outdated.

If anyone utilizing the donations has ideas for specific products that would be helpful, please pop a note right in the cupboard.

The Little Free Food Cupboard is located on the grounds of the Pawlet Community Church—it’s bright red!  Please take what you need and leave what you can.

Pawlet Emergency Team emergency shelter announcement
The Pawlet Emergency Team is bringing renewed focus to strengthening our program around local emergency sheltering so that we are ready to support our community should the need arise. Both the Mettowee Community School and the West Pawlet Firehouse are identified as options for local shelters that can offer support to those displaced due to property or infrastructure damage, or to those who are not able to meet their basic needs due to a disaster situation.

In the event of a need to open a shelter locally, we would function as a partner shelter with the American Red Cross (ARC), which could provide material support. Communities are responsible for developing their own team of volunteers to staff the shelters and the American Red Cross will provide training for these teams.

If you would like to learn more about becoming a shelter volunteer, please contact Jacki Becker at jackiebbecker@gmail.com, or Bob Morlino at robertm850@aol.com.

The Hermit Thrush is the state bird of Vermont. If you haven’t tracked one down yet, you’ll have another month or two before they migrate for the winter. Look for them in forests with clearings (ponds or meadows) close by.
